Searching for journal articles

There are 2 good databases for searching for scientific journal articles in the life sciences:

• • Pubmed (or use this link from off-campus to access the journals with the Brandeis library log-in)

• Google Scholar

To search on Pubmed, you can use simple lists of words, or phrases in quotes like this:

ferret parvalbumin cortex

"Hubel" and "cortex"

More complicated searches can be made by using OR and NOT

("squirrel" or "squirrels") NOT ("squirrel monkey" OR "squirrel monkeys")

To search for journals you can add the following

"Hubel" and "cortex" and "J Neurophysiol"
