Hippocampal Imaging
There are a few ways you can choose to image the hippocampus.
The most common method is accomplished by using cortical aspiration and imaging through a cannula. This will allow you to obtain the widest field of view (using a 1.0mm diameter GRIN lens probe). You can find a full protocol and video tutorial for the aspiration step available here: http://www.inscopix.com/support/methods/surgical-preps/cannulated-widefield
You may also choose to directly insert a GRIN lens into your region of interest. This is generally done using a thinner (ie: 4.0mm long x 0.5mm in diameter) GRIN lens probe, which will offer a smaller field of view, but is less invasive. You can find a detailed protocol of the direct lens insertion procedure here: http://www.inscopix.com/support/methods/surgical-preps/directlensinsertion
